MSU not above the law, pro-family activist says
by Jody Brown
No state institution is above the law, says a pro-family activist in Michigan — and that’s why his organization and a legal group in Ann Arbor have filed a lawsuit against Michigan State University (MSU).
Voters in the Wolverine State overwhelmingly approved a marriage protection amendment to the state constitution in 2004.
But Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan, alleges that MSU’s policy providing spousal-type benefits to school employees’ homosexual partners violates the now-amended constitution because it uses taxpayer monies to subsidize those same-sex relationships as if they are equal or similar to marriage.

“A conservative group on Wednesday sued to stop Michigan State University from offering health insurance to the partners of gay workers and said the school is violating a 2004 amendment to the state constitution. The American Family Association of Michigan filed the lawsuit…and hopes to get a ruling setting a precedent that would block domestic partner benefits at other state universities. …The purpose of the suit is to ensure that courts rule on the constitutionality of domestic partner benefits at public universities, said Patrick Gillen, an attorney for the Thomas More Law Center in Ann Arbor, which is representing the American Family Association.
…In 2004, Michigan voters approved a constitutional amendment that made the union between a man and a woman the only agreement recognized as a marriage ‘or similar union for any purpose.’ …’If MSU doesn’t allow an employee to put her elderly grandmother or little sister on the university’s health insurance, how do they justify singling out only employees involved in a homosexual relationship for special treatment?’ said Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan. Glenn and Gillen wrote the 2004 amendment.”

“A federal judge barred the Lubbock Gay Straight Alliance from meeting on (a high school) campus, citing the school district’s right to determine ‘what subject matter is considered obscene or inappropriate.’ (American Family Association of Michigan President Gary) Glenn says if Forest Hills School Board in Michigan ‘truly cared about young people who are ensnared by deviant behavior, they would tell them the truth that homosexuality is harmful and to be avoided.’ The family advocate explains that no school is mandated to allow clubs that promote deviancy.”

Activist says clubs promoting risky
behavior should be booted from campus
By Jim Brown
A Michigan school board is defying the requests of parents who want Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) clubs banned in the district.
Despite the objections of concerned parents, the Forest Hills School Board has vowed it will not shut down three GSA clubs in the district. The board claims the federal Equal Access Act requires schools to allow sex-based clubs. But Gary Glenn, director of the American Family Association of Michigan, says schools can ban student groups that promote risky behavior — and it has already been done, he adds.

Parents’ persistent protest pays off; clubs’ flags removed
by Jim Brown
A pro-family group is hailing the removal of a “homosexual pride” flag from the wall of a Michigan high school.
For almost two years, conservatives have been protesting the presence of a rainbow flag displayed by the Diversity Club at Howell High School. Students even formed a Traditional Values Club in response to the school’s allowance of homosexual activism on campus. Last Thursday (June 22) officials at the school took down the rainbow flag, the Christian flag displayed by the Traditional Values Club, and those of all other campus clubs.
Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan, says public outcry forced school officials to reverse what he describes as “one of the most outrageous examples of political correctness ever seen in Michigan.”

“Doug Norton, the Howell teacher who donated the (‘gay pride’) rainbow flag to the Diversity Club…said it is ‘sad when an outside group’ uses student activities ‘to pursue their own social or political agenda.’ But that ignores the fact that not all within the Howell school community seemed open to divergent views. The Traditional Values Club did not get the same positive reception as did the Diversity Club. A teacher placed a ‘hate’ bumper sticker below the Traditional Values Club’s flag. That seemed to support the LOVE group’s feeling that the ideal of tolerance for diverse ideas was limited to the ‘right’ groups.”

“The recently recognized Traditional Values Club has won the right to hang its organization’s flag in the stairwell of Howell High School next to the Diversity Club’s rainbow-colored flag, which some say represents gay pride. The Traditional Values Club flag is red, white and blue, symbolizing patriotism, and it features a red ‘t’ which stands for traditional values. The lowercase ‘t’ also resembles a cross, representative of the Christian faith. …’It’s a Christian flag obviously, and I’m thrilled the club decided on having a Christian emblem to represent them,’ (Livingston Organization for Values in Education spokesperson Vicki) Fyke said.”

Please forward this message to your church and other parents.
Dear AFA-Michigan supporter…
…and other parents and youth pastors.
You have a great opportunity in April to help train your politically-interested teens to be effective activists for traditional Judeo-Christian values in the public policy arena.
The Leadership Institute will be conducting on-site training in Lansing April 21-23, which I urge you to encourage your teens and other young people to attend. (See details below)
I attended this school in Washington, D.C. in 1978 and was immediately offered two campaign jobs. As a result, I managed my first campaign for the Legislature that year at age 20, and over two dozen years of political and public policy activism have followed since. This school is literally how I got started.
My wife, vice-chair of the College Republican National Committee in the mid-80’s, also attended this school and later managed campaigns for Congress, lt. governor, the state Supreme Court, and the legislature.
My son attended this school in East Lansing two years ago, leading (so far) to a 3-month internship this past summer at the Leadership Institute headquarters in Washington, D.C.
I highly recommend this campaign training school for conservative young people who want to make a public policy difference for Godly values in the culture in which they will have to raise their children.

“Gary Glenn, president of the Midland-based American Family Association of Michigan, would like to see intelligent design taught as a theory alongside others, including evolution. ‘Intelligent design teaches the universe and its makeup is so complex that the odds are overwhelming that the universe was designed by an intelligent being,’ Glenn said. ‘Those of us who are people of faith believe … that was God.’ He said teaching intelligent design and evolution provides equal access and academic freedom. …’How do you justify censoring a particular theory?’ Glenn asked.”

“Great thinkers” prove homosexuality is not natural
by Fr. Jeffrey Robideau (email@example.com)
The great scholars of the universities, much to their dismay, prove the Church’s point.
The University of Michigan is offering a course entitled, “How to be Gay: Male Homosexuality and Initiation.
Answer me this: If homosexuality is so natural, why does one need to learn “How to be Gay?

“HOW TO BE GAY: MALE HOMOSEXUALITY AND INITIATION
The University of Michigan Fall 2005 Catalogue states that our tax-funded university this fall is offering students at Ann Arbor a class entitled, “How to be Gay: Male Homosexuality & Initiation. The catalogue course description states that the class “will examine the general topic of the role that initiation plays in the formation of gay identity and that “the course itself will constitute an experiment in the very process of initiation that it hopes to understand. We urge Gov. Granholm, the Legislature, and the University of Michigan Board of Regents to do everything possible to stop U-M officials from using our tax dollars to recruit students into a class whose stated purpose is to “experiment in the “initiation of teenage males into a high-risk lifestyle of homosexual behavior.
