Background on Boy Scout Attacks in Michigan
|
- Conservative, Republican-dominated Allegan County in west Michigan became home to the first United Way chapter (we know of) in Michigan to take the extreme and punitive step of cutting funding for its local Boy Scouts because of the organization's prohibition against exposing youth to adult males who engage in high-risk, life-threatening homosexual behavior.
- On October 21, 2000 Anthony Robinson, a member of the Michigan chapter of the American Family Association, awarded $4,000 on the association's behalf to the Gerald R. Ford Council of Boy Scouts, which is based in Grand Rapids.
- The Allegan County United Way complains in a news story that their office has been inundated with e-mail and phone calls in opposition to their decision to become part of the tiny fringe minority (1%) of UW chapters nationally to cut funding to the Boy Scouts.
